Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Chief Dispatcher in Austin, Texas to join our team.


Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Reports directly to the Manager of Dispatcher Services (MDS)
  • Direct supervision of Train Dispatchers in the Train Control Center (TCC)
  • Provide supervision and oversight to all employees and contractors on the Capital Metro Railroad.
  • Train and ensure all Train Dispatchers are fully qualified in their duties and that they perform in a safe and effective manner adhering to all company policies and safety rules (Ops Testing)
  • Provide performance reviews & discuss deficiencies and improvement plans
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Maintain on-time performance (OTP), & internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Perform job briefings with Maintenance/Way & Signal as needed
  • Define, document, problem solve and manage processes and procedures to protect both revenue commuter service, freight service, excursion service and construction/maintenance activities and performance goals
  • Provide manpower planning for train dispatchers & cover train dispatcher shifts according to manpower levels
  • Confirm delay notifications are accurate and timely.
  • Ensure effective communication with the designated personnel during disruptions or unusual events.
  • Must be willing to work varied shift hours, varied days off, holidays, and extended hours as may be needed to respond to operational circumstances as required.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Must have experience as a Chief Dispatcher or Train Dispatcher.
  • Commuter Rail experience and knowledge of railroad operations, dispatching and transportation operations and experience integrating construction/maintenance activities with revenue service.
  • Knowledge of GCOR, FRA regulations, and must be able to qualify on territory within 3 months.
  • Demonstrate experience and ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, with both internal and external organizations.


Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
