HSR Constructors is currently seeking a Track Equipment Operator for the Brightline Project that runs between West Palm Beach and Cocoa, Florida, with offices located in Melbourne and Ft. Pierce. This 128 mile-long project includes the construction of new track, the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing track; bridges; road crossings; and associated railroad signals work.

 

HSR Constructors is a joint venture of three of the leading railroad and transit contractors in the nation: Herzog, Stacy and Witbeck, and Railworks; who have joined to construct this fast-paced, high-profile project.

 

The ideal candidate would have familiarity with operating track equipment, such as: backhoe, track hoe, tie inserter, spiker, spike puller, front end loader, speed swing, bolt machine, tamper, regulator, tie crane and/or other track equipment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Operate specialized track equipment
  • Perform routine mechanical maintenance to equipment
  • Follow proper safety and housekeeping procedures
  • Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures
  • Performs daily equipment safety and maintenance checks, making emergency adjustments as necessary and documentation per daily inspection and repairs reports
  • Keeps records of material and equipment usage and problems
  • Takes actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects
  • Communicates with direct supervisor on daily production, safety issues, and mechanical repairs.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous track equipment operating experience preferably Railroad experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Basic mechanical ability required
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools and hydraulic equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety requirements and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safe, efficient use of equipment and tools to perform construction and maintenance tasks.
  • Willingness to wear the proper and required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as hard hat, steel toed boots, eye and hear protection and face shields and other PPE required for specific tasks. Must provide own safety-toed boots.
  • The ability to communicate in a professional manner with owner’s representatives, coworkers and direct supervisor.
  • Ability to complete work under time pressure and to maintain composure under the stress of emergency situations.
  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) the English language
  • Bilingual is a plus
  • Successfully complete and maintain and required safety certification and testing on annual basis.
  • Prior to operation of any piece of equipment, operator will be observed and certified for competency and ability.

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

 

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

  • Regularly lift up to 75 pounds of weight, up to an end height of 36 inches for a distance of up to 10 feet.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds of weight, up to an end height of 48 inches for a distance of up to 10 feet.
  • Regularly carry weight up to 16 pounds for a distance of up to100 feet.
  • Regularly push/pull a force up to 25 pounds for up to eight minutes continuously.
  • Regularly grasp/squeeze equipment or tools with a force up to 40 pounds.
  • Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
  • Regularly ascend/descend a step with a height of 28 inches from the floor.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, squat for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet.)
  • Available to work a 40 hour work week subject to overtime, on call and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position. 
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals.
