Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Chief Mechanical Officer (CMO) in St. Joseph, MO or in the Dallas/Fort Worth areas.

 

Established in 1993, Herzog Transit Services, Inc has become the nation’s premier contract passenger rail service provider. With primary offices in Missouri and Texas, we operate 13 rail transit properties and provide Maintenance of Equipment (MOE) functions at 10 of them. We are currently looking for a Chief Mechanical Officer (CMO) responsible for the shop operations, field operations, engineering, and managing Life Cycle Maintenance (LCM) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) Programs for all locomotive, coach, DMU and EMU Fleets of Herzog maintained equipment. The CMO should be able to plan and think strategically, be able to identify trends through careful analysis of complex data and have a high regard for safety and Operational Excellence.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of and compliance with the company safety plan
  • Coordinating the maintenance and repair of all rolling stock
  • Interpreting and applying all FRA, EPA, and CPUC regulations and record keeping requirements
  • Must foster a culture of Safety and 49CFR Part 217 testing company-wide
  • Developing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs for all railroad support equipment
  • Developing and administering complex MOE budgets for maintaining equipment, facilities and labor
  • Must have a working knowledge of and be familiar with various types of tools and equipment pertaining to the maintenance of rolling stock
  • Must have the ability to identify training and tool needs at various projects
  • Collaborating with operations management to determine locomotive and coach needs
  • Collaborating with management to ensure an efficient operation
  • Managing rail vehicle maintenance programs including oversight
  • Managing maintenance programs
  • Delivering capital projects
  • Utilization and analysis of data as a basis for decision making
  • Developing and administering departmental goals, objectives and procedures
  • Analyzing and assessing policies and operational needs and making appropriate adjustments
  • Identifying and responding to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns and needs
  • Selecting, supervising, training and evaluating staff
  • Providing leadership, mentoring and support to all MOE Project Mangers
  • Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be committed to promoting a safe workplace
  • Must have a minimum ten (10) years mechanical, electrical and or management experience in the Railroad Industry
  • Working knowledge of FRA and CPUC regulations as it pertains to the railroad industry
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and federal and state regulations
  • Must be able to work any day of the week depending on workload and requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment and repair
  • Applicant must be currently authorized to work permanently in the United States
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Frequent travel required and could include holidays and weekends

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Willing to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to climb inside and outside of equipment
