Herzog Contracting Corporation is currently seeking a Shop Mechanic in Elwood, KS to maintain our fleet of civil and specialized railroad maintenance equipment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports all labor activity involved in maintaining a fleet of civil and railroad equipment.
  • Electrical, pneumatics, and hydraulic work on civil and railroad equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, diagnose and repair of equipment as required.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.
  • Ability to document and track maintenance work orders electronically.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel required if needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with electrical, diesel mechanics, welding, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must provide steel toe boots (safety vest, glasses and hardhat provided).
  • Must provide own basic hand tools.
  • Must be proficient in the English language.
  • Must have 3-5 years mechanic experience.

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.\
  • This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances; frequently climb on/off equipment; climb ladders frequently
  • Use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, holding and pulling
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery; bend, walk, stand and sit for extended time; and use hand tools
  • Exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
  • Able to lift 75 pounds
  • The physical demands described above must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times.
