Herzog Services, Inc. is currently looking for a Technician in Saint Joseph, MO. The Technician will work closely with engineers, designers, and project managers to develop and maintain industry leading railroad maintenance-of-way equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Repairs, tests, troubleshooting, and conduct preventative maintenance on all current railroad test equipment.
  • Wire, troubleshoot and build new railroad test equipment.
  • Travel to repair or exchange railroad test equipment as needed.
  • Handle service calls relating to the operations of the railroad test equipment.
  • Keep a clean and productive work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Chauffer Driver’s License. Ability to be DOT qualified.
  • Material and product knowledge.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment, cutting/power tools.
  • Ability to understand electrical/mechanical drawings and hydraulic/pneumatics systems.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing using the English language.
  • Must be self-motivated and a quick learner.


Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
    • This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle. 
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.


Physical Requirements:

  • The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times.
  • Exposure to outside/inside environments, medium lighting and high noise levels.
  • Exposure to all weather conditions including extreme cold, snow and rain.
  • Will be required to bend, stoop, stand, and climb in performing daily tasks and activities.
  • Works in an environment with many distractions.
  • Required to wear safety apparel and equipment while performing job duties.
  • Must be able to work safely around loose materials, uneven surfaces and metal plates and equipment.
  • Must have visual acuity and hearing capability sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job unless other vision or hearing standards are required by law.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull loads in accordance with all applicable safety rules and regulations.
