Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently searching for a DMU Engineer in Austin, TX.
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safe and efficient operation of a passenger train.
  • Maintain qualifications as required by Federal regulation and company policy.
  • Interact with passengers and make on-board announcements.
  • Receives and complies with en route instructions from Dispatch Center.
  • Reports to the proper authority any and all deficiencies and safety concerns encountered on the rail corridor.
  • Reports mechanical malfunctions and coordinates with the mechanical department to correct mechanical or safety problems identified on equipment.
  • Prepares reports as required.
  • Follows all other instructions from Company Officers.

 
Qualifications:

  • Qualified locomotive engineer preferred.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain an Engineer Certification under 49 CFR 240 and qualifications of General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR).
  • Physical requirements to maintain engineer certification and perform safety sensitive duties.

 
Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
    • This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee works primarily at the controls of railroad equipment.
  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours.
  • May occasionally be required to work or assist with work adjacent to; on, under or between rolling equipment in varying weather conditions and ambient light levels.
  • The employee may occasionally be required to work adjacent to moving railroad equipment at any time of day; on any track, in either direction.
  • Occasionally this employee is exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes and oils.
  • Must be able to effectively change tasks at a moment's notice when the situation requires.
  • Some occasional heavy lifting may be required.
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals
  • May be exposed to potential accidents of an incapacitating and or fatal nature.
  • The execution of this position’s responsibilities normally requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, proper footwear and gloves
