Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking an entry-level Field Engineer for the MBTA Green Line Extension (GLX) Project in Boston, MA.  Position will primarily involve installation of the overhead catenary (OCS) and traction power systems (TPSS).  Key duties will include scheduling; submittals; preparing installation drawings for superintendent; compiling as-built data; verifying installation quantities; field quality inspections and testing.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the OCS Manager in developing and maintaining the GLX Project OCS Program.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for various materials and activities in order to procure and forecast material needs.
  • Compile necessary information for all submittals and coordinate with Document Control to ensure proper documentation.
  • Perform OCS engineering needed to produce field installation drawings and data based on OCS design documents and material supplier information.
  • Work with OCS superintendent in laying out OCS work in field.
  • Assist Superintendent with coordination of material deliveries.
  • Perform field verifications, inspections and measurements.
  • Work closely with document control and field personnel to ensure they have latest drawings and installation documents.
  • Provide schedule update information to project scheduler.
  • Ensure that work is correctly cost coded and all extra work is coded to separate cost codes as assigned by the Project Engineer or other.
  • Ensure that differing site conditions are reported to the OCS Manager and effectively documented.
  • Update drawings with redlines of as-built information.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience in a construction related position preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • AutoCAD skills a plus.  Will provide training as needed.
  • Construction management course work or internship experience a plus
  • Must be flexible in working in both office and field environment as needed.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Must have strong organization skills
  • Must be highly motivated

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
