Herzog Contracting Corp is currently seeking a Railroad Coordinator in Boston, MA for the Green Line Extension Project. The Railroad Coordinator is the Green Line Extension Constructors (GLXC) representative assigned to coordinate the construction work with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), MBTA’s Operator/Maintainer Keolis, Pan Am Railway, Amtrak and CSX. The Railroad Coordinator is GLXC’s main coordinator/liaison for all railroad related issues. The Railroad Coordinator shall communicate construction activities with MBTA railroad operations which will then coordinate with all the other associated railroads. The Railroad Coordinator is required to attend all Commuter Rail Track Construction Coordination meetings.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain vital timely communication between GLXC and MBTA to minimize impacts, maintain the project schedule, and reach project milestones
  • Schedule track outages and work windows
  • Determine work activity protection (on-track safety) requirements
  • Other construction related coordination as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in railroad track maintenance and/or construction in an operating railroad environment on a Class I Railroad or an equivalent Commuter Transit Railroad system including at least 5 years’ experience in supervising or directing the work of others engaged in railroad track maintenance as a Company Official and five years’ experience in managing construction and/or maintenance contracts.
  • Desirable to have an associate degree from a Junior or Community College in Business, Construction or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to communicate in written and verbal English language with prior record keeping experience.
  • Must be familiar with and proficient using the Microsoft Suite of Office programs; specifically, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.   
  • Must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 49 Parts 213 and 214 with the ability to be qualified through Owner/Operator required examinations.
  • Must have been previously qualified with a railroad to provide railroad workplace safety protection under CFR Part 214.
  • Knowledge of the physical layout and operations of commuter rail systems.


Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to distinguish colors and to hear warning signals and radio and telephone devices.
