Herzog is seeking a Director of Training interested in joining our family.  We are looking for a subject matter expert and discipline lead with previous program development and strong initiative to join and grow the department.  In this role, the qualified candidate will work hand in hand with the HR, Safety, and Management teams to create and implement training and development programs that will ensure compliance and maximize employee development opportunities.

We construct and maintain, heavy rail, commuter rail, light rail transit, streetcar, intermodal, and freight systems with celebrated success. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and administer training programs to ensure compliance with FRA part 243(Training, qualification, and oversight for safety-related railroad employees.
  • Research, plan, organize and facilitate company training programs, seminars and conferences to support team, individual, management, and functional development activities; establish in-house training programs that address company needs across division lines.  
  • Recommend, develop, deliver and manage training programs at various Herzog locations in the US – classroom, e-Learning, on the job training, and blended learning sessions.
  • Manage outside consultants with conducting various training programs.
  • Recommend approval of job-related courses to develop and maximize potential of employees; prepare and maintain related records and reports.
  • Maintain records of all training programs/participants with related personnel information; provide special reports when required.
  • Utilize a variety of HRIS programs; identify and develop a dedicated Learning Management System.
  • Work closely with HR to facilitate and develop New Hire Orientation training.


Travel Requirements:

  • Significant travel may be required



  • Progressively responsible experience in training and organization development including new program design.
  • 49 CFR & 29 CFR Regulatory affairs a significant plus.
  • Construction/Railroad/Transit industry experience is a significant plus.
  • Familiarity with FRA regulations is significant plus.
  • Previous experience with Learning Management Systems and HRIS software.
  • Advanced communication skills; written, verbal and presentation
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts


Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.


Physical Requirements:

  • Works in an office environment the majority of the time.  Will visit field and shop locations on a regular basis.
